I try to make sure that my photos show my subject’s eyes, especially at the conventions that I photograph at. Characters usually spend a great deal of time on makeup and want to see that conveyed in their photograph (as do I). It is a very rare event when I choose to hide their eyes, but this was one of those instances where there was so much color that I thought it overpowered the subject’s beautiful face. By photographing her profile, I was able to emphasize the graphic element of her hat, profile, and dress. The absence of her eye from the side also conveyed a bit of a sense of mystery for me, which seemed to fit this character. This is Angelina Phantomhive (Madame Red) from Black Butler.
