Blog: Goodbye 2013, hello 2014…

This is the first time I have done a year-end review and as I start to look back I realize that it has been quite a year! I have been fortunate enough to photograph a variety of subject matter and spread my wings a bit as a photographer, learning along the way. Simply writing these posts has been incredibly helpful to my photography. Through self-evaluation and forcing myself to have some time to look at and analyze what works and what does not work in an image (and more importantly, why) has been extremely beneficial.

In January I went a bit begrudgingly with my husband to Antarctica. Prior to the trip all I could think about was what about the people? What about the street scenes? What about the excitement that I so long for in a destination? I was sure that it was going to be a long trip. As it turned out, the trip was cold, serene, eerily quiet at times, but it took my breath away both physically and mentally. I will always remember the penguins that had eyes and personality that rivaled many people I have come across. They made for a happy substitute. Wildlife Photography, check!

In March I ventured to Vietnam for a trip that was more in my comfort zone and it was remarkable. The trip had an abundance of people, street scenes, and culture. Who could ask for more? Oh yeah, it also had a bit of humor…

May took me to Palouse for some landscape photography. It was so incredibly beautiful with blue skies, puffy clouds, green grass, and a smattering of barns. It was irresistible and most certainly any photographers delight.

A last minute trip to Myanmar ended out the year. I had the chance to take an Elinchrome Quadra and play – my luggage just gets heavier and heavier…

I am so thankful for the family that lets me travel, the people I travel with, and the people I meet along the way. I have enjoyed having my work exhibited at many venues this year, including my first long-term exhibit. I was honored to have had some photos as finalists in some bigger contests in PDN magazine and Santé Fe Workshops. Locally I have been judging camera club competitions and doing presentations on travel photography.

Reminiscing about the busy year has made me tired, but in such a good way!
